WLP is seeking a current student or recent graduate of Library and Information Sciences (or related discipline) to assist with developing WLP’s online resource library and to advance our web-based communications projects. The Digital Archives and Communications Interns will participate in the creation of an extensive online archive using the Drupal CMS and the Internet Archive digital library. This paid internship is based at the WLP office in Bethesda, Maryland.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist in designing and populating a multimedia digital library of video, audio, and documents pertaining to the global women’s movement
  • Assist in assessing and customizing WLP’s Drupal-based resource library to meet institutional needs and priorities
  • Expand our content library on the Internet Archive by uploading resources and metadata according to specified workflows. Track and monitor progress and troubleshoot issues
  • Assist with updating and maintaining WLP’s written and multimedia web content including articles, newsletters, images and video, event announcements, social media messaging, etc.; liaise with content experts; use the text editor and basic HTML code to create custom content. Use image and video editing tools to design/ develop multimedia content.
  • Create user guides, visual aids, and other knowledge-sharing materials
  • Edit/convert/combine multimedia content for usability as needed
  • Research and testing of technical processes/ products as needed
  • Digitize files and records related to the Archives
  • Other tasks as assigned


  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience required
  • Degree in Library and Information Science, Web Development, or related field strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of library and information science, data management/databases, and/or digital asset management required
  • Must be self-motivated, able to take direction and provide input, and thrive in small team environment
  • Great communication skills, both written and oral
  • Possess very keen attention to detail, an ability to maintain focus for sustained periods, and strong organizational and research skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of content management systems required (Drupal a plus)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and basic HTML code required
  • Knowledge of photo, video, and audio editing software a plus
  • Arabic, French, Persian, or Russian language skills preferred
  • Interest in international development, human rights, gender, politics, and cultures in Africa, Asia, or the Middle East
  • Legally authorized to work in the US and will not now require employer sponsorship for employment authorization (i.e. J-1; H-1B)

Preferred commitment: Minimum four months, 15-20 hours per week
Compensation: Commensurate with experience
